ARTISTIC COORDINATION

Mikuláš Bryan: Mikuláš teaches dancing both home and abroad for over 15 years already. Although he approaches every dance with a deep respect for its roots and traditions, he always aspires to broaden its horizons and create a bridge between tradition and modernity. The same applies to his music – bands ba.fnu, BAL LAB and his solo project, Mr. Folxlide. They are a melting pot of balfolk, electronics, Czech tradition, blues, Americana and new French music. Mikuláš focuses on (bal) folk and blues, because that's where his heart is, but he has a rich dancing background consisting of tango, swing, salsa, balboa and early dances, with years of jazz and contemporary workshops here and there. He also studied in Brittany for a year, dancing and performing with the Cercle Celtique des Rennes. His teaching experience ranges from small weekly classes to longer training camps and workshops for several hundreds of people at festivals such as Gennetines or Boombal.

Anatole Lorne: Anatole moved to dance practice in 2007, after studies in Earth sciences till a PhD in Tectonics. After a little period of half time between tango, folk and contemporary dances, a serious car accident moved him to commit full time. He followed a professional training for 2 years, in the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine, in Angers, France, and lived since 2011 as a dancer in different projects, pedagogical as well as artistic.

Among those, the dance piece Vendredi was a big adventure, touring for 6 years in many street festivals.
Thai massage is part of his practice for almost 10 years now. Curiosity and need brought him to experiment many different body practices (aïkido, meditation, tea, somatic techniques, qi gong, foot massage...) that got infused in what he proposes now.

Francesco and María are balfolk teachers and producers. Located in Madrid, they organise loads of events, workshops and stuff. Or, at least, they used to before the Covid-mess.

Among other events they organise the Bailando Entre Montañas festival, the Neo-Trad: folk, feminism and dance, and several concerts in the Madrid area.

As folk dancers and teachers, they’ve specialised in couple dances, studying their most intimate features and exploring the possibilities from fusions with other dances. Their approach, based on creativity, active listening and roles switching, has been recognised in these years with workshops in many balfolk festivals in all Europe (they still miss some country, though).

They’ve also participated as teachers in other balfolk residencies such as Folktemporary, Resitrad or Sustainabal and they wish to bring the spirit of these encounters into this new gathering.
